NEO TITAN - Discord & Humble

DEMO

First off, we'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has tried the NEO TITAN demo!

The feedback has been really useful, and it seems like a lot of people have had a great time with the game, which has been very motivating for us to hear. Here are a few of our biggest takeaways from what you guys have been sharing about the demo!

  • People really love the platforming! Our last game, Archvale, featured some top-down platforming challenges, which were rarely (if ever) mentioned as a highlight, and some were a little too fiddly/challenging. As a result, I was not expecting so much love for the platforming in NEO TITAN. Top-down platforming is always a bit of a touchy subject; there's a lot of inherent depth/readability issues that come from this perspective. However, I have spent a lot of time tweaking the platforming in NEO TITAN to be as forgiving as possible. I'm glad to see that has paid off!

  • The absence of the i-frame dash has not been as controversial as I had expected. The dash in NEO TITAN, as I'm sure you've noticed if you've played, grants no i-frames at all. This is a rare omission in a lot of modern action games, and I had expected we may see some pushback against it. While there have been a few who wish the dash had i-frames, many have understood what we're going for here and appreciated the heavy focus on positioning this moveset encourages.

  • The opening section is in a great place challenge-wise. We had extensively tested this opening section before releasing the demo, and were under the impression that the game will be pretty tough in the first couple of hours as people acclimate to the character controller and mechanics. The sword slash pulling you forward, and the melee focus among bullet-heavy attacks are quite tough friction points. There were a number of times in testing that had us considering whether to tone the difficulty down by reducing damage dealt by enemies. I'm pleased that we stuck with our initial instincts, as I think the difficulty is working well to force you to pay attention from the very start of the game without being overdemanding.

  • Players seem to be a fan of the bosses! I love making boss fights. They were my favourite part of Archvale, and they are again my favourite part of NEO TITAN. I am really excited to see everyone face off against the tougher bosses once NEO TITAN releases.

  • Little touches are a great use of our development time. People loved seeing enemies interact, like the helicopter plants lifting up the crabs in Deep Meadow. This was a silly feature we thought would be a bit of fun to include, but proved to be something quite special. Same goes with the turtle that you can smack at enemies, and the goofy mapping sentry and their projections. This kind of detail is only possible because we've spent such a long time working on the game, and I'm hoping there will be plenty more moments like this to catch your attention in the full game.

DEMO PLANS

  • We've released a couple of updates to the demo since launch, including a patch that added 2 new pieces of music, as well as plenty of bug fixes.

  • We have more updates planned, which will include additional content, but those will be a little later down the line.

DISCORD

Secondly, we're opening up a Discord server for NEO TITAN!

  • We'll be sharing previews of areas, bosses, and characters as we continue to work towards launch.

  • We will also regularly check in to chat about the game and its development progress.

We'd love to hear any thoughts on what kinds of content you'd like to see more of in the demo, so please post suggestions below and in our Discord.
